If Only general manager Gordon McCreadie will take over from Fitzell, which the group said would ensure a “seamless transition”.
“The time feels right for me to hand over the reins to Gordon after an incredible journey leading these exceptional businesses,” said Fitzell. “On a personal level, both my children are preparing for university, and from a professional perspective, I am confident that the business is in a fantastic position to transition in the very capable hands of the senior leadership team.”
Fitzell, who joined Elegant Resorts in April 2018, went on to thank the “incredible talented individuals” she has worked with over the years and added that she is “deeply grateful” for the support of the company’s “valued supplier partners”.
She noted a number of achievements during her tenure, including overcoming the challenges of the pandemic, overseeing the acquisition of If Only and launching Private Travel Designers.
“I have every confidence that Gordon will bring fresh vision, energy and inspiration to lead the next exciting chapter of our business,” Fitzell added. “He already works seamlessly with the senior team and is well-known and highly respected by our colleagues in Chester.”
Fitzell went to thank Redmond Walsh, the chief executive officer at Elegant Resorts, for “entrusting me with the leadership of these outstanding brands and for steering Portman Travel Group to remarkable success, growing from a £150 million turnover in 2015 to a £1 billion-plus business today.” She finished her statement by thanking the “PTG leadership team, Jane, Matt, Mark, and Susie, for their support over the year,” before adding: “I look forward to some well-earned rest and quality time with my family.”
