The ship, which is due to launch in autumn 2022, is installing electrical charging points along the river from London Bridge to Greenwich to encourage other vessels on the Thames to follow suit.

Oceandiva will also assess where carbon emissions reductions can be made across an event’s “lifecycle”, including sourcing and energy use, as well as food and beverage choices.

The 86-metre ship will feature three decks and cater for both corporate and private events for up 1,500 standing passengers or 560 seated guests.

Oceandiva London, which will be powered by renewable energy, will also use the latest marine technology to reduce its environmental impact including noise-reducing electric engines.

The ship will utilise fast-charging shore-based green electricity, alongside onboard solar panels and a back-up biofuel generator.

Chloe Jackson, managing director of the ship’s operator Smart Group, said: “As part of the Smart Group’s goal of achieving net zero by 2030, along with our in-house caterer, Moving Venue, we are focused on reducing consumption across three key areas: energy, travel and food waste.”

Tracey Halliwell, director of business tourism at London & Partners, added: “We are delighted that after several years in development, London will become home to the new carbon neutral Oceandiva London.

“We are thrilled to welcome this trailblazing new technology to the Thames; it aligns with our drive to grow sustainability on the river.”
