A fundraising page set up after the death of Tui agent Cassie Hayes has exceeded its £7,000 target after only nine days.
The Cassie Hayes #agentsunited page on gofundme had received donations of £7,300 as TTG went to press. It was created by Travel Gossip co-founder Bruce Martin after Hayes was killed on January 13 in the Southport shop where she was assistant manager. The money will be donated to the family of Cassie, who had a young daughter.
Hundreds gathered in Chapel Street, Southport over the weekend for a vigil remembering Cassie. A minute’s silence began at 1.27pm, marking exactly seven days since the incident, and following the tribute the crowd broke into a round of applause.
The vigil was reportedly organised by staff from businesses in Chapel Street and shop workers joined the crowd to pay their respects.
Andrew Burke, 30, from St Helens, has been charged with her murder. Separately, a man from Widnes has been cautioned following complaints about a malicious Facebook post referencing the 28-year-old’s death.
