Amanda Darrington may have only been at Funway Holidays five weeks, but she is already making her mark. “There’s a lot that has happened that we haven’t shouted about and we need to,” she admits.
We meet on Darrington’s first month anniversary at the US, Mexico and Caribbean specialist, and her enthusiasm for her role – a position that was newly created – is evident.
For many, her decision to leave Kuoni where she had been head of trade sales for almost eight years, raised eyebrows – particularly as just a few weeks later Kuoni announced a restructure and job losses.
Darrington however, insists the decision to leave was all hers, born out of “personal ambition” after a “fabulous” tenure.
After a few minutes of seeing her excitement and passion for her new role, it’s easy to see why it was the right move. She laughingly describes her position as “the chance to take the pain away” from Funway managing director, Stephen Rhodes, but Darrington clearly has big plans for the company herself.
