The Abta Travel Convention 2020 will be held in Marrakech, it was revealed today.
The convention will be held between 5-7 October at the Palmeraie Resorts.
Activities will be held in the mountains and on the resort’s golf courses.
Adel El Fakir, chief executive of the Moroccan National Tourist Office told delegates tourism represents 8% of the country’s GDP, with the UK the third-largest tourist market for the country.
He added that 700,000 Brits currently visit the country, but he hoped this would rise to one million within the next few years.
El Fakir added the UK market was a “clear priority” for Morocco and praised the UK travel industry for its response to the Thomas Cook collapse, stating Morocco had also suffered as a result of the travel giant’s failure.
He also referenced the £62,000 raised for ex-Thomas Cook employees through Abta LifeLine during the convention, adding: “I have been touched by the generosity of this industry over the past few days.”
