Intrepid Travel’s tours will restart on Thursday (14 September) with some amendments, while G Adventures has confirmed its tours are running as normal after cancelling five departures heading to affected areas, including Mount Toubkal.
"All other departures in Morocco are scheduled to run as planned, with minor modifications to trip itineraries in order to avoid any affected areas,” G Adventures said. “The immediate need is to keep these areas clear and let the emergency services fulfil their role.
"We are rerouting tours heading to Imlil and Ait Ben Haddou to avoid these destinations. We are also offering alternative experiences in Marrakech to avoid the Medina, which has sadly been impacted by the earthquake."
Intrepid, which has accounted for all of its customers, tour leaders and staff on the ground – has also made amendments to its tours to avoid the earthquake-hit High Atlas mountains, while also significantly reducing time spent in Marrakech, which was hit hard by the quake.
“We understand some people may want to reassess their immediate travel plans following the recent earthquake,” said Intrepid in a statement. “With that in mind, we have provided our travellers who have booked trips from 13-17 September with the option to cancel and receive a credit.”
Customers scheduled to depart from 11-13 September have been given refunds.
Shortly after the earthquake hit, Intrepid launched a Morocco emergency appeal, which has over the past two days raised more than AUS $250,000 (£128,586) to support relief efforts and help the country begin to rebuild.
Several other businesses, including Tui, Charitable Travel and Virgin Limited Edition, have launched their own fundraising efforts.
G Adventures added: "Bringing tourism income back to the affected areas will be vital to support the local communities affected, but only when it is the appropriate time, and we do not yet know when that will be."
