The Coynes decided to pay for the fitness classes hosted by Colman’s sister Marie after Kirklees Council closed Dewsbury Sports Centre in early September due to the discovery of collapse-prone Raac concrete in the building.
The sports centre’s closure came as a blow to Marie’s fitness fanatics, some of whom have been attending her classes for more than 15 years. "When I was told the sports centre was closing, I got home and I cried,” said 81-year-old Joyce Walker, who has been attending the classes for six years. “These classes keep me alive.”
The husband-and-wife team agreed to pay for all of Marie’s equipment after she was offered a new venue by the Longcauseway Church in Dewsbury town centre.
“As a business we have always been keen to support our local communities,” said Rachael Coyne. “When Marie told us about the real possibility that her classes could stop, we knew we had to try and help.
“We are sad that the sports centre remains closed, but we are delighted that we have been able to play our small part in creating a happy ending for Marie’s Active Movers.”
Marie Coyne said: “Personally, I was devastated when the sports centre closed its doors, but I was more concerned for all these lovely people that come to my classes, I knew that for some it was a lifeline.
"Thankfully, Colman and Rachael at Jetset Not Just Travel were able to step in and help to keep the classes alive.”
