Target (which stands for Travel Agent Reform Group Engaged Together) has written to Abta urging the trade body to contact Tory candidates and quiz them on how they would support the industry should they become the UK’s next prime minister.
Co-founder Jill Waite, director of Pole Travel in Failsworth, called the government’s lack of support for the travel sector during the pandemic “horrendous”.
Fellow Target co-founder, Westoe Travel boss Graeme Brett, urged agents to “take every opportunity” to challenge candidates on their vision for travel and send in questions to TV and radio interviews when opportunities arose.
“If a candidate cannot promise their support for travel before the leadership election, then there is no chance of them doing so once they become prime minister,” said Brett.
