Around 200 GH London Ground Handling workers at Luton airport, employed by Wizz Air, voted in favour of strike action late last year in a dispute over pay and delayed payment of a retention bonus.
However, the Unite union – which represents GH London ground handling staff at Luton – confirmed on Monday (9 January) action had been avoided following fresh negotiations.
Unite said members would benefit from a 10% salary increase, backdated from 1 July 2022 to 31 December 2022, and a £500 retention bonus.
In addition, workers will also receive a 9% pay increase from 1 January, and if the RPI rate of inflation is greater than 9% in May, workers will receive the difference as a further percentage pay increase from June 2023.
“This is a great deal and a testament to the hard work of Unite’s GH London Ground Handling reps and the solidarity of our members," said Unite general secretary Sharon Graham.
