Aviation and maritime minister Robert Courts said the Airport and Ground Operations Support Scheme was being reopened due to Omicron.
In a tweet, he said: “We’ve opened up the Airport and Ground Operations Support Scheme for a third time to provide commercial airports and ground handlers with up to £4 million in support to help with their fixed costs.”
To qualify, airports and ground handling companies must demonstrate a forecasted loss for the six months to 31 March 2022. The closing date for applications is 18 January.
Grants can be used for general running costs, payments to companies other than airlines, ground handler costs, insurance or business rates.
Previous AGOSS grants were offered in February and June this year.
The announcement comes a day after the government pledged £1 billion to help the hospitality sector, with agents and operators fearing they have been overlooked once again.
