The 17-day Sub-Antarctic Safari voyage will depart Chile’s capital Santiago on 4 November, wrapping up in Ushuaia, Argentina on 20 November.
Guests will be able to explore the Falkland Islands and South Georgia, tracing Sir Ernest Shackleton’s historic journey to the islands.
The ship is named after marine biologist, oceanographer and explorer Dr Sylvia Earle.
Hayley Peacock-Gower, chief marketing officer at Aurora Expeditions, said the ship would serve as a "floating ambassador" for the world’s conservation efforts, with its itineraries placing a focus on marine education and conservation.
“We are so looking forward to having passengers join us in exploring some of the world’s wildest, most awe-inspiring and important regions while paying tribute to such an incredible hero of our planet.”
Following its maiden voyage, the Sylvia Earle’s inaugural season will continue with several voyages to Antarctica, followed by trips to Costa Rica, the Canadian Arctic, Norway, Greenland, Iceland, Ireland and Scotland.
Dr Earle herself will join a special Antarctic Climate Expedition in February. The aim of the expedition is to address the potential dangers of climate change and the loss of ice in southern polar regions.
Certified 100% carbon neutral, the ship also pays tribute to six pioneering female conservationists from around the world alongside Dr Earle, who are honoured on each of the ship’s public decks. They are: Jo Ruxton, Dr Asha de Vos, Hanli Prinsloo, Dr Carden Wallace, Bernadette Demientieff and Sharon Kwok.
It can accommodate 130 to 140 passengers per voyage, with every cabin offering an ocean view. The majority have balconies.
The ship features a two-level glass atrium lounge in the bow, a lecture lounge, multiple observation areas, Zodiac platforms, two restaurants, a gym and wellness centre, a pool, jacuzzis, mudroom and other amenities.
To celebrate the inaugural season, Aurora Expeditions is offering up to 20% off Sylvia Earle voyages for bookings made by 30 June 2022.
