The travel industry is waiting to learn who will take up aviation and maritime brief in government after Baroness Vere was moved to the Treasury as part of Rishi Sunak’s reshuffle.
Baroness Vere has been named as parliamentary secretary in the Treasury, four and a half years after joining the Department for Transport (DfT).
She was a junior minister in the department when she took on the aviation brief in September last year before being assigned maritime responsibilities in November 2022.
On X, formerly known as Twitter, Baroness Vere posted: “I am delighted to have been asked to take on a new role at @hmtreasury.
“It has been an honour and a privilege to serve at @transportuk for 4.5 years and, it’s fair to say, I will miss my colleagues and stakeholders and know that they are in good hands.”
It has not yet been announced who will take up the aviation and maritime responsibilities, following the departure of Baroness Vere.
MPs Anthony Browne and Guy Opperman and life peer Lord Davies of Gower, who is president of the Welsh Conservative Party, have joined the DfT.
Opperman, MP for Hexham, has been appointed roads and local transport minister. Mark Harper remains transport secretary.
