The Association of Women Travel Executives (AWTE) dug out their hiking boots at the weekend for a fundraising walk along the Dorset coast, raising more than £500 for suicide prevention charity Papyrus.
Papyrus is AWTE’s charity of choice for 2022 and the walk, which began at Durdle Door and ended at Ringstead Loop, was the association’s first event this year – designed to promote positive mental health.
Participants consisted of board members and representatives of association members, ageing from 15 to 50-plus. AWTE’s next outdoor event will be an open swim at Coniston Water in the Lake District in June.
The group plans to hold more walks and open swims, activities it says are proven to have a positive impact on mental health.
Lindsay Garvey-Jones, AWTE vice-chair and communications director, said: “I am thrilled with the positive feedback we have had from across the travel industry on the back of our inaugural wellness walk along the Dorset coast.
“Raising more than £500 for Papyrus, which is such an amazing charity, exceeded our expectations and donations are still coming through.
“The walk itself was a fabulous opportunity to take a break from the norm and meet up with some old friends and an opportunity to make some new ones too, with ages ranging from 15 years to more than 50 years.”
