Video footage on social media showed a build-up of unclaimed baggage left next to the conveyor belts on Sunday (19 December).
According to Sky News, some passengers claimed they were told to go home and return to the airport on Monday (20 December) to collect their bags.
A spokesperson for BA told Sky the disruption on Sunday (19 December) was caused by adverse weather conditions including fog, as well as staff sickness.
"We’ve apologised to customers whose flights were cancelled due to operational constraints," they added.
"Our teams are working extremely hard to get our customers rebooked and on their way as quickly as possible."
