The carrier will add an extra Nassau service in late March, increasing its direct service from Heathrow airport from four flights a week to five.

Its new Tuesday flight will get under way on 31 March 2020 and is on sale now.

Flights will be operated by a Boeing B777-200 aircraft offering three cabins – economy, premium economy and business.

Bahamian capital Nassau offers onward connections to the Out Islands.

BA’s five-times weekly Nassau service from 31 March will from on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from Heathrow Terminal 5.

Meanwhile, Bahamian minister of tourism and aviation, Dionisio D’Aguilar, has confirmed international flights to Grand Bahama are set to resume imminently.

Grand Bahama and the Abaco Islands bore the brunt of Hurricane Dorian’s 175mph winds back in September, which claimed dozens of lives and destroyed thousands of homes, as well as vital infrastructure.

“Grand Bahama is already rebounding,” said D’Aguilar. “The major resorts and attractions are open; ferry service from South Florida is in full operation; and international flights will resume by November 15.

“The speed at which Grand Bahama island is recovering is truly a testament to the resilience of our country and the Bahamian people.”
