The attack, which has killed at least 20 people, took place near the Erawan Hindu shrine, which is popular with tourists.
It went off at 7.00pm local time when the area was crowded according to the BBC.
“This is the worst incident that has ever happened in Thailand,” said Prayuth Chan-ocha.
“There have been minor bombs or just noise, but this time they aim for innocent lives. They want to destroy our economy, our tourism.”
