Following a successful strike ballot last month, PCS members have a mandate to strike until May, with PCS general secretary Mark Serwotka telling BBC Radio 4’s Today programme the union "can sustain strike action for months".
"I think that not only could there be six months [of strike action], I think in January what you’ll see is a huge escalation of this action in the civil service and across the rest of our economy unless the government get around the negotiating table," said Serwotka.
Border Force officials embarked on the first of six full days Christmas strike action on Friday (23 December) at six UK airports, action likely to affect around 10,000 flights and up to 1.8 million passengers arriving into Birmingham, Cardiff, Gatwick, Glasgow, Heathrow and Manchester airports.
PCS members are in dispute with the Home Office over pay, pensions, jobs and redundancy.
