The carrier said the decision had been made following Heathrow’s extension of its 100,000-passenger a day capacity cap.
With Heathrow’s cap in place until 29 October, BA will cancel on average a further 12 short-haul round-trips from Heathrow each day – 629 flights – during that period.
A BA spokesperson said the airline was “protecting key holiday destinations over half-term” and claimed “the vast majority of our customers will travel as planned”.
It is understood cancellations will mainly impact destinations with multi-frequencies.
Meanwhile, BA’s winter short-haul schedule running until the end of March will be reduced by 5,000 round-trips, while the airline said the trimming of its long-haul programme had already been actioned.
In total, BA’s capacity for its winter schedule across short and long-haul will be reduced by 8%
