Hotel price comparison website Trivago found more than half (51%) of UK consumers believe this summer is going to be their best summer yet for travel.
Of those who have made firm plans to travel in 2022, 68% have plans to travel in summer and nearly one third (30%) are travelling in autumn.
The firm’s Q2 data shows UK consumers are booking rooms in hotels located close to airports in a bid to alleviate pressures prior to air travel.
Holidaymakers are also considering alternative plans to summer travel by choosing a domestic break opposed to an overseas trip. According to Trivago, 35% of all searches over the past month from the UK are for hotels within 50km to 250km of a user’s local area
Axel Hefer, chief executive of Trivago, said: "With all the changes to travel over the past two years, it’s no surprise that people are hungry for holiday breaks this summer. Accommodation operators have been extremely busy over this period and have every reason to remain optimistic over the remaining weeks of summer.
“However, as we approach the autumn and winter period, it will be interesting to see if the UK’s appetite to travel remains strong. As we move towards even more economic uncertainty and inflation continues to rise, there will be an impact on accommodation operators and their prices."
