The Canary Islands is reportedly poised to lift all remaining local Covid restrictions on Thursday (24 March).
Canaries president Angel Victor Torres confirmed the move at a meeting of the islands’ governing council on Tuesday (22 March), according to the Canarian Daily.
It will remove curbs on closing, restaurant and bar capacity, and the size of groups allowed to mix.
However, Torres warned the rules could be reintroduced at any stage if the epidemiological situation in the destination worsens.
The decision affects rules set by the Canaries government. Central government rules set in Madrid, such as the requirement to wear face coverings indoors and complete passenger locator forms, will remain in place.
Torres said the decision marked the next stage in the islands’ return to normality, while stressing the pandemic was far from over.
