Four flights a week to the Ohio city from the airline’s Reykjavik hub will start next May.
Cleveland will be Icelandair’s 19th destination in North America and will follow the start of flights to Tampa on September 6.
Icelandair chief executive Birkir Holm Gudnason said: “Cleveland is the perfect destination for our route network. We are happy to be the first carrier to provide service to Europe in eight years.”
Located on the shores of Lake Erie, Cleveland is known for art, basketball, and its music scene. With a population of 2.2 million, the city home to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, while Cleveland’s basketball team, the Cavaliers, is led by one of the brightest stars of the NBA, LeBron James.
Icelandair will offer connections from Heathrow, Gatwick, Manchester, Birmingham and Glasgow. In addition, Air Iceland Connect will fly from Aberdeen and Belfast to Reykjavik from next June. Fares have yet to be finalized.
