A partnership between Abta and Deloitte, the Climate Action Guidebook offers technical knowledge and follows Abta’s 2020 Tourism for Good report.
Discussing the guidebook during the conference, Alistair Pritchard, lead partner for travel and aviation at Deloitte, urged delegates: “Read the guide, take time to digest it, and think what you’re going to do help on the decarbonisation journey for the sector.”
“Let’s build back better in a more sustainable way,” added Pritchard. “It’s all about taking action now.”
Abta said bosses and sustainability leads from a number of member companies had contributed to the project, which had been developed over the past year.
Among its resources, the guide includes current carbon reporting and reduction targets required in reaching the UK’s net-zero targets and information on climate-related risks and how to manage them.
Guidance on how businesses can measure their carbon footprint is also included, as well as industry-specific case studies.
The guide is aimed at businesses “of all shapes and sizes” and also features new Abta data on consumer attitudes towards climate change – with 71% of UK consumers believing that climate change “is an emergency” and 57% say they are changing their activities or purchasing habits to help address it.
