OTA Travel Republic said searches for Jamaica, China, Japan and the Olympic champion USA have all spiked in the wake of the games, writes Plamena Manolova.
Jamaica was the key beneficiary of the trend with searches rising faster than Usain Bolt can run the 100m, as bookings rose 170% during the games.
Sales rose up to 160% for China and the country is now in second place of Travel Republic’s Olympic destination choices for next year.
The winner of the Rio Olympics 2016, USA, remained a popular choice for the OTA’s customers with up to 17% increase in sales.
British holidaymakers have also shown interest in the next host of the Olympic Games, Japan. Despite the fact the games do not begin until August 2020, bookings to the country have already increased by up to 77%.
Naomi Wilkinson, marketing director at Travel Republic, said: “ Consumers making these bookings almost a year in advance for far-flung, and still relatively off the main tourist trail, destinations such as Japan and China is a great testament to how strong confidence is in long-haul travel.”
For people who are interested in visiting those destinations sooner, Travel Republic offers packages to Tokyo, Montego Bay, Shanghai and Las Vegas with prices lead in at £382 per person for the City of Sin. Packages include accommodation and return flights from Gatwick, Heathrow and Manchester.
