Travelling to Heathrow on Crossrail will be around half the cost of using the Heathrow Express, it has been confirmed.
London’s new Elizabeth Line will open on Tuesday (24 May), although direct services to the airport will not commence until the autumn when tunnelling is complete. Until then, a change is necessary at Paddington for another Crossrail train.
A single journey from Paddington to the airport will cost £10.70 off peak and £12.70 at peak times. This compares with the £25 single fare for the same journey on the Heathrow Express.
A single Tube journey from central London to the airport costs £3.50 off peak and £5.50 at peak times.
Non-stop Heathrow Express trains take 15 minutes to reach the airport, but Crossrail will take 28 minutes, calling at six intermediate stations.
Transport for London said: “The Elizabeth Line is the most significant addition to London’s transport network in a generation.”
