It comes after the group published its air traffic report for February 2022, which saw passenger traffic figures resume an upward trajectory after recovery stalled due to the outbreak of the Omicron variant.
Olivier Jankovec, director general of ACI Europe, said the improvements in figures reflected member states’ easing of restrictions as the Omicron wave subsided, both at local and international level.
"Since then, most restrictions to intra-European travel have been lifted and more external markets are opening up – meaning the traffic recovery has gathered steam," he added.
Despite Jankovec reporting the outlook for the Easter and summer holidays was "strong", he said staff shortages, high traffic peaks and ATM capacity issues have started to put a strain on airport operations and quality.
"Above all, there is no escaping the fact that the war in Ukraine has devastated the country’s airports and that it also comes with significant downside risks for European air traffic," he continued.
