The adventure specialist said the move would see it take steps to reduce the negative impacts on natural eco-systems of its trips, while ensuring they proactively support the restoration and regeneration of nature in-destination.
Its focus will be to continue reducing the negative impacts of travel – carbon emissions, waste, pollution and exploitation of ecosystems, and outweigh these with ecological efforts.
Exodus’s nature net-positive pledge follows commitments to halve the firm’s carbon footprint by 2030, rewild 100sq/m of land per passenger, and compensate for all emissions resulting from its trips and flights.
"The link between climate change and biodiversity collapse is now well recognised with climate change accelerating the degradation of natural ecosystems, and in turn, the degraded ecosystems weakening our defences against the worst impacts of climate change," said Exodus.
There will also be opportunities for guests to contribute to the operator’s efforts on its trips.
“Our global society is waking up to the reality that we’re not just facing climate crisis, but accelerated biodiversity loss – and the two exacerbate each other," said Exodus managing director Sam Seward.
"We want to acknowledge our responsibility to not only minimise our negative impacts, but proactively support the conservation and restoration of our natural world. The launch of our partnership with Rewilding Europe earlier this year was our first step. Now we’re making our nature net positive commitment to start taking concrete, measurable steps towards ensuring our adventures give more back to nature than they take.”
Exodus has partnered with several organisations, including NatureMetrics and IUCN, to support eBioAtlas initiative to help monitor biodiversity around the world and use technology to target restoration and regeneration efforts.
From 2023, Exodus clients will be able to collect samples on their trips to help support conservation action and inform world biodiversity policy.
Kasia Morgan, Exodus head of sustainability, added: “As an adventure travel company with a mission to improve life for people, places and planet, we’re excited to work with NatureMetrics in equipping our clients to collect freshwater samples on their global adventures, enabling us to use our business model to contribute towards this crucial work for the long-term conservation and restoration of biodiversity.”
