Action is due to start next week with the FCDO warning:
“Several unions have called for cross-sector strike action and demonstrations on Tuesday 31 January. This may lead to disruption to services.
"Please check the latest advice with operators before travelling, avoid demonstrations and follow the advice of local authorities.”
The Times warns action is likely to spill over into February half-term. The two main unions covering lift operators have announced unlimited strike action.
“We have decided to call for a strike during the February holidays because demands are listened to more during this period,” Eric Becker, head of the lift operators’ branch of the Force Ouvriere union told the paper.
The situation is exacerbated because half-term in France is split over four weeks, unlike in the UK, where it is a shorter time span.
Action is part of a nationwide programme of protests against plans to raise the retirement age from 62 to 64.
Strike threats are the latest setback for the winter sports industry following a dearth of snow before Christmas. Conditions have since improved in most resorts.
