The Family Holiday Association (FHA) has teamed up with TransPennine Express to give disadvantaged families in the north of England the chance to explore a city or enjoy a trip to the seaside.
TransPennine will be providing complimentary travel to eligible families across Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire. Journeys include Cleethorpes to Sheffield, Hull to Leeds, Middlesbrough to York and Scarborough to York.
According to the FHA, the partnership could benefit up to 40 families, including more than 80 children, throughout 2019.
The FHA is a national charity providing breaks for struggling families facing issues such as disability, severe and sudden illness, bereavement, mental health issues and domestic violence.
Many of the families it works with have never been on a family holiday before, visited a city or the seaside.
Chief executive Martin Realey said “We’re excited to be working with TransPennine Express. For many of the families we help, transport is a big barrier to taking a meaningful break.
“The offer of complimentary travel will help families to access a much-needed and often life-changing trip away, giving them a break from whatever challenges they are facing at home and creating precious memories to last a lifetime.”
Charlie French, accessibility and integration manager for TransPennine Express, added: “We’re pleased to be able to make this contribution to support families and provide a fun-filled day to remember.
“We are committed to supporting local communities across our network and connect people with the key cities and their attractions and activities right across the North.”
