The incident happened on a United Airlines service to Houston from Rio de Janeiro’s Galealo airport on Monday (19 December).
During the flight, the aircraft hit the pocket of turbulence as it flew over Cancun, causing it to drop by 500 feet in seconds, without warning, according to The Telegraph.
A statement on FlightAware.com reportedly read: "United flight 128 encountered unexpected turbulence while en route to Houston. Upon arrival, two passengers and three crew members were met by medical personnel and taken to a local hospital with minor injuries."
