A former Travel Republic boss is preparing to launch a new travel website next year, which will focus on searching for holidays, rather than hotels or flights.
Travel.co.uk is headed up by founder and chief executive Chris Roche, with backing by the founder of Comtec, Simon Powell, and serial entrepreneur Humphrey Sheil, who most recently co-founded Eysys.
Sheil has been appointed chief technical officer and is overseeing the building of the technology platform.
Roche said he was “looking forward to shaking up the online holiday purchasing process”.
“Technology has made life much easier for customers to find their perfect flight or hotel through businesses like Skyscanner, Momondo and Trivago yet technology has not yet made its impact on holiday searching,” he added.
“I hope to change that. Technically, it’s challenging but we are confident we are building something that will be of real value to both customers and holiday companies.”
Roche will be speaking at TTG’s Tomorrow’s Travel Leaders conference for young achievers in travel.
Other speakers will include Tui Travel chief executive of Peter Long, who will be the keynote speaker at the conference, and Bruce Poon Tip, the founder of G Adventures.
