According to The Telegraph, a number of senior government officials are pushing for the rules to be overhauled and claimed the rapid spread of the Omicron variant has rendered the testing requirement "pointless".
Day 2 PCR tests and the requirement to self isolate until a negative result is received could also be reconsidered.
The UK’s testing stipulations have been in place since 7 December following an increase in concern over the Omicron variant. An update on the travel rules is due on Wednesday (5 January).
