The quake on Tuesday morning (19 October) was reportedly felt on Crete, Santorini and Rhodes, with the epicentre thought to have been in the eastern Mediterranean near the island of Karpathos.
It was also felt in Turkey, Egypt, Syria and Israel, according to initial reports. It is not yet known if there have been any injuries.
It is the third earthquake to hit the country in less than a month after a 6.4-magnitude quake last week and another in late September.
