Around six million people were served by Heathrow in August, down more than 20% from the 7.7 million that travelled through the airport during the same month in 2019.
The final figure of just over six million, though, did represent a major 170% rebound from the 2.32 million passengers who used the airport in August 2021 when Covid remained a major consideration for many.
Heathrow handled more than 38 million (38.4 million) passengers between January and August 2022, more than four times more (406%) than it did during the equivalent period in 2021.
However, this is still down significantly from the 54.2 million passengers that used Heathrow between January and August 2019.
The biggest rebound during the year to date was in North American passenger traffic, up more than 800% compared with the first eight months of 2021 to 9.56 million.
Total air transport movements at Heathrow increased by 78.5% from 19,004 in August 2021 to 33,922 in August 2022. The figure was 41,952 in August 2019.
Heathrow’s busiest market in August was traffic to and from the EU, followed by North America and the Middle East.
