Iberostar Cristina, in the Bay of Palma, Spain, and Iberostar Herceg Novi, a four-star hotel in the Bay of Kotor in Montenegro, are working to electrify their hot water generation, heating and kitchens and eliminate their stoves, ovens, hobs and boilers that work with gas.
Through the electrification of its Montenegro property alone, 35,000 litres of propane a year will no longer be used. The effort to promote electrification is part of Iberostar’s plan to achieve greater energy efficiency and lower energy consumption in different areas.
Fernando Garcia, chief resources officer at Iberostar Group, said the company is "taking a first step" towards decarbonisation.
"We have launched an ambitious energy efficiency program with which this year we will save 8% energy and reach a level of savings of 35% in 2030," Garcia added.
"In addition, we are increasing solar self-generation energy in some of our hotels in America and Europe, as well as the purchase of electricity from renewable sources in those countries where it is possible."
