McGuire joined Intrepid in August 2022 as general manager, UK sales and marketing, and oversaw 60% revenue growth in 2023 versus 2019, as well as record January sales earlier this year.
She will take up her new chief marketing officer post on 1 April, reporting into Intrepid chief executive James Thornton, but will remain UK-based.
McGuire will work closely with Intrepid’s new president of the Americas, Leigh Barnes, who was formerly chief customer officer, during a transitional period.
Her remit will span a range of global departments, including brand, PR and communications, and customer and experience, the latter being a new addition to Intrepid’s CMO portfolio.
Intrepid said recruitment would get under way immediately to find McGuire’s successor as general manager, UK sales and marketing.
McGuire more than 20-year career in the travel and transport industry includes spells with Flight Centre Travel Group and its Back Roads Touring and Topdeck travel brands, and latterly Big Bus Tours.
She is also a member of the Travel by B Corp board, of which Intrepid is a member.
Thornton hailed McGuire as an embodiment of Intrepid’s values and her promotion "a clear reflection of the talent and vision" within the Intrepid workforce.
"Hazel’s depth of experience in the travel industry and her proven success leading our UK business positioned her as the perfect candidate to realise Intrepid’s global growth ambitions," he added.
McGuire said: “This is a dream role, not only in the travel industry but in global business. My goal is to identify the big opportunities that will help us realise Intrepid’s 2030 strategy.
"Leigh has done an amazing job growing our talented global team and I am committed to continue building on our shared vision to be the best travel company for the world."
