The changes – which come into effect on 7 September – were confirmed by prime minister Fumio Kishida on Wednesday (31 August).
According to Reuters, Kishida said Japan will further ease restrictions while taking into account virus infections in and outside of the country, demand from travellers and border controls implemented by other destinations.
"From the standpoint of making use of merits from the weak yen, we’ll ease border controls further," he reportedly said.
The move comes after Japan began a phased reopening to tourists in June after a more than two-year ban.
