BA CityFlyer will restart flights to the Czech capital on Sunday (31 October), becoming the 13th of its 15 pre-pandemic routes from London City to return to the airport’s schedule.
London City said it was hopeful BA CityFlyer’s Milan Linate and Munich routes would follow in the months ahead.
Meanwhile, after Covid wiped out the 2020/21 ski season, London City will gain new ski routes to Salzburg in Austria and Chambery in France, also operated by BA CityFlyer, complementing its existing winter services to Zurich and Geneva.
The airport expects October passenger numbers to come in at around 145,000, up 21% on September; several of the airport’s busiest days since the onset of Covid-19 have been set during October, including on 22 October when 7,300 passengers departed.
Richard Hill, London City’s chief commercial officer, said passenger demand in October had given the airport "real confidence" heading into 2022, particularly as business travel picks up again.
"The growing confidence in the market has led to British Airways announcing three new, exciting connections between London City, Prague, Salzburg and Chambery," said Hill.
"Passengers itching to get to the Christmas markets, or Alps for a much-deserved break – or flexible working destination – this winter, will be pleased to know they can now travel from the centre of London to these destinations in a few hours."
