Madeira has tightened Covid restrictions just as the island enters the peak winter season.
The destination remains open to tourists but has returned to “a state of contingency”, according to the UK FCDO.
Measures now in place include the requirement to show a vaccination certificate or negative antigen test, renewable weekly, to access shops, public transport, cinemas, bars, restaurants and other hospitality venues.
From 27 November, a negative antigen test will be required in addition to the vaccination certificate. The FCDO said the test must be carried out weekly.
Measures do not apply to children up to 12 or those who cannot be vaccinated.
Existing rules also require international visitors to produce a negative lateral flow test conducted within 48 hours of arrival on the island.
Despite the new measures, UK operators are expected to continue their programmes as the island gears up for its busiest period.
A Jet2 spokesperson said flights to Madeira were operating as normal.
