At 5.16pm Monday (21 August), armed officers from Leicestershire police attended the incident and following instruction, the individual left the aircraft. He was arrested on suspicion of possession of an explosive substance.
Following the arrest, the aircraft was fully searched. No explosive device was found onboard, and police said there is no suggestion the threat made was viable.
The flight had been scheduled to depart for Antalya at 4.45pm, but did not take off until 8.18pm. The man has since been released on bail with enquiries ongoing.
A Jet2 spokesperson told the BBC: "We can confirm that flight LS653 from East Midlands to Antalya returned to stand yesterday evening so police could offload a disruptive passenger.
"The flight departed after the passenger was offloaded. We would like to apologise to everyone onboard for any inconvenience or upset caused by this unforeseen incident."
