MAN confirmed the outage in a tweet shortly after 11am, warning the issue was affecting some of its processes – notably check-in.
Despite introducing contingency measures, the airport acknowledged the impact of the glitch on Terminal 1 in an update shared at around 12.30pm.
"Due to the outage we are experiencing, we are aware Terminal 1 is currently much busier than usual due to delays to the check-in process in particular," said the airport.
In a further update, issued at around 1.15pm, Manchester said its systems were being restored, but warned it could take "some time" to clear the backlogs.
The issue was fully addressed shortly before 5pm. "Following the IT issues we experienced earlier today, we are pleased to report our systems are all back up and running and our airport is operating as normal," said MAN.
"We apologise for any disruption and thank passengers for their patience."
