Managing director of Authentic Villa Holidays, Tara Hawkins, spoke to Haringey MP Catherine West during the protest, who – according to Hawkins – was "very sympathetic to the situation" and agreed the travel industry was "not being supported". West also said she would raise the issue in parliament.
The demonstration was organised on 27 November after prime minister Boris Johnson reintroduced day 2 PCR tests for returning travellers, but gained further momentum after health secretary Sajid Javid confirmed the return of pre-departure tests on Saturday (4 December).
Following the recent travel curbs, Hawkins said consumer confidence had been "rocked" and customers are now holding back from making bookings.
"This government has basically effected a pound shop business closure as they are stopping us from trading but not giving us any support," she added.
"I do believe if we all formed a pressure group we can achieve something, as I told [West] after two years, 650 MPs have managed to make a mess of the industry and we are going round in circles.
"We need to have a plan to get us out of this mess and we have to do this as part of a big debate and discussion with the industry, government etc."
