The award-winning stage musical, with music by Cindy Lauper, will be the headline act on Encore. It tells the true story of a Northampton shoe factory owner who revives his failing business by making footwear for drag artists after a chance encounter with a performer.
Details were revealed at the vessel’s keel laying ceremony at the Meyer Werft shipyard, when the lead character, Lola, performed with three other cast members.
Andy Stuart, NCL president and chief executive said: “We are very excited to be the first to feature this award-winning musical at sea.”
Additional entertainment originally debuted on Norwegian Bliss will be available on Norwegian Encore. It includes Happy Hour Prohibition: The Musical, an interactive cocktails and theatre show, and The Cavern Club, based on the Liverpool club, with live musical performances from a Beatles cover band.
Norwegian Encore will also feature the largest go-kart track at sea. Covering two levels, it will extend to nearly 1,150 feet, feature 10 turns and four points that extend up to 13 feet over the side of the ship.
Norwegian Encore will also feature the Galaxy Pavilion, a more than 10,000-square-foot indoor virtual reality complex, showcasing cutting-edge technology and interactive gaming including an escape room.
The industry’s only open-air laser tag arena, which debuted on Norwegian Bliss, will reappear on Norwegian Encore, but this time as the resurrected lost city of Atlantis. The ship will also feature NCL’s Aqua Park, including two multi-story waterslides, one of which extends 11 feet over the edge of the ship and loops down to the deck below.
The 169,000 tonne ship will accommodate up to 4,000 guests and cruise from Miami every Sunday, sailing seven-day voyages to the Eastern Caribbean. The first will be on November 17, 2019.
