The new rail link, which is expected to open between 2029 and 2033, are expected to cut journey times from the current 70 minutes to as low as 32 minutes.
Plans to build a direct link from the airport into the HS2 line connecting it with London are said to be advanced. The project to build the new station is currently out to tender.
Birmingham airport chief executive Nick Barton told the Express & Star the new link will ease existing capacity constraints at Heathrow while giving travellers more choice.
Barton, who has led Birmingham airport for the last six years, said: "We’ve got the added benefit coming our way of HS2, and we’re a huge beneficiary of that.
"The station box will be here, and that can put you into London with the right connecting time in under 40 minutes.
“We think we’ll be in Zone 5 of the tube map – Heathrow is in Zone 6."
Barton added that the high-speed rail link represents only a fraction of the huge investment made by Birmingham airport, which is set to invest millions over the next few years to improve facilities.
This investment will mainly focus on extra capacity for aircraft stands, new security and baggage systems. Barton has ruled out a second runway.
“We’re investing that in asset renewal and making this airport fit for the flagship status that we’ve got," he continued.
"That’s not a second runway or anything of that sort, the runway extension that was completed in 2014 is brilliant and it’s done a really good job. We’ve got a fantastic runway, we don’t need a second one.”
Barton’s comments come after chancellor Rachel Reeves expressed support for Heathrow’s expansion via a third runway.
