Play will first launch Stansted-Baltimore/Washington flights, via Reykjavik, on 20 April 2022, and then Stansted-Boston from 11 May 2022. Prices start from £169 one-way, although there is a special launch fare of £139 from 16-24 December.
Chief executive Birgir Jonsson said: “We’re proud to expand Play’s service to the United States, offering both American and European travellers a new way to reach iconic destinations.
“With our reliable and affordable flights, travellers can enjoy their holiday destination rather than overspending on the flight to get there.”
Transatlantic flights to Baltimore/Washington will depart from Stansted four times a week on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday, with a one hour 25 minutes stop in Reykjavik. Services to Boston will also depart four times a week, with a 1 hour 50 minutes layover in Iceland.
Play has so far carried more than 87,500 passengers on its European routes since its creation in 2019. The airline operates a fleet of new Airbus A320neo and A321neo aircraft.
