Wibstad will take up the role no later than 1 June 2022 said Norwegian on Wednesday (24 November).
He will take over the role from Geir Karlsen, Norwegian’s chief executive.
Karlsen was appointed CFO in April 2018 ahead of the carrier’s wide-ranging restructure, completed earlier this year.
He was subsequently named chief executive in June this year, taking over from Jacob Schram.
Karlsen will now hand over the role to Wibstad. "His strategic mindset and extensive experience in finance and management will be highly appreciated," said Karlsen, who added he was confident Wibstad had the right background and experience for the role with Norwegian.
Wibstad currently serves as executive vice-president and chief financial officer of engineering consultancy Multiconsult ASA.
He brings more than 20 years’ experience in finance and management roles to the post across a range of industries spanning shipbuilding, shipping and offshore, as well as financial market experience after a spell as a senior corporate banker.
"Norwegian is a market leading low-cost airline with a strong brand and loyal customer base," said Wibstad.
"As the aviation industry begins to return to normality, I look forward to building on my competence and experience and working with a dynamic and solid leadership team to build a strong Norwegian."
