A second regional airport in Peru has been shut owing to fresh political protests over the ousting of the country’s president Pedro Castillo last month.
Juliaca airport in Puno is the latest to shut, according to the Foreign Office. It follows the suspension of operations at Ayacucho earlier this week.
The FCDO is continuing to warn that travel to some parts of the country may not be possible owing to road blockades, rail service suspensions and airport closures.
These include rail services to Machu Picchu and the Inca Trail, where hundreds of travellers found themselves stranded last month owing to the unrest.
"The airport of Juliaca in Puno and the airport of Ayacucho have suspended their operations," warned the FCDO in its latest round of travel advice. "Travellers should check with travel providers in advance."
