Former Wizz Air pilot Morgan joined easyJet in 2016 and was named interim COO in the summer following the departure of ex-Ryanair COO Peter Bellew, in whom Balpa’s easyJet members returned a no confidence vote following what it described as a "challenging period" during the pandemic.
EasyJet confirmed Morgan’s appointment as COO on a permanent basis in its full-year results announcement on Tuesday (29 November), saying: "David has been an integral part of the easyJet leadership team since he joined as chief pilot in 2016 from Wizz Air where he held the same role. David remains an active pilot."
Balpa said it looked forward to working with Morgan. "After a challenging period with the former COO, Peter Bellew, Balpa expects easyJet to increase its standing in the low-cost short-haul UK market."
National officer Terry Brandon added: "Balpa is looking forward to working with easyJet in progressing and honouring our agreements, especially on crew fatigue mitigation and roster stability. As an ATPL holder [airline transport pilot licence], it is hoped that with his direct experience of, and insight into, the challenges faced by his pilots, a more constructive and sympathetic way forward can begin."
