On Twitter, P&O Cruises highlighted a tweet it received, which read: “I hope P&O are boycotted by every customer who wants a cruise.”
The cruise brand added: “We’ve received a lot of messages like the one above during the past week.
“Our names may both begin with P&O. But that’s where the similarity ends. We are separate organisations and have been for 20 years.”

The P&O Cruises brand name now carries the strapline: “Proudly part of Carnival Corporation and PLC.”
Its website also now carries a prominent banner distancing the brand from the ferry operator, while P&O Cruises has also produced a video detailing the two brands’ separate parentage.
The initiatives follow the sacking of 800 staff by P&O Ferries, which prompted P&O Cruises president Paul Ludlow to immediately take to social media to stress his line had “no connection to P&O Ferries”.
