The construction milestone, which featured a traditional coin ceremony, took place at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany.
Like its sister ship Iona, Arvia will be powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG) and have shore power connectivity capabilities.
P&O president Paul Ludlow said Arvia’s environmental focus showed the line’s “ongoing commitment to sustainable travel”.
Arvia will be delivered in December 2022 and sail its maiden voyage to the Canary Islands followed by a winter season in the Caribbean.
