Riu’s first hotel outside Majorca has reopened under its high-end Riu Palace banner following a €22 million revamp.
Riu Palmeras hotel in Playa del Ingles, Gran Canaria, has been brought up to the standard of its Riu Palace line.
Opened in 1985, the hotel now offers 24-hour all-inclusive service while sporting new features and all-new design throughout.
Luis Riu, chief executive of Riu Hotels and Resorts, said the revamp was a significant milestone for the business and him personally, the hotel having “kick-started” his career.
“This hotel was Riu’s first outside of Mallorca,” he said. “At the time, we ploughed the chain’s top talent into this project in order to present our very best service in the Canary Islands. It is a source of pride to see it today as the Riu Palace Palmeras.”
All 234 of the hotel’s rooms have been completed renovated, while an annexe has been added with an additional 40 rooms.
Riu has added a new fusion restaurant, Krystal, and revamped its existing lobby, lounge and poolside bars, all of which have open terraces.
Pool areas have been renovated, with the addition of a new children’s pool and play area.
Other improvements include accessibility accommodations, including specially adapted ground floor rooms for people with reduced mobility.
